Capital One embarrassment

Trying to watch any of the Capital One Bowl today was painful (almost as bad as watching Cincinnati's performance against Florida). Everyone involved with organizing that game should be embarrassed by the field conditions that Penn State and LSU were forced to deal with.

Bowl games are supposed to be a memorable experience, and not resemble the movie Hard Rain with Christian Slater. We already witnessed earlier in the week when Miami's Graig Cooper suffered a nasty injury because of the miserable field conditions. This should not have happened and it needs to be remedied before they play another bowl game here.

Stay classy Cincinnati

Dear Bearcats fans,

Let me see if I have this right.

It was a great three-plus years for my family and me in Cincinnati. We won back-to-back Big East Championships, and I'm proud of all the players who helped the Bearcats go 34-6 during my tenure. This past season was unbelievable.

Until today. I know some of you are upset that I bolted from Cincinnati for my dream job at Notre Dame. But egging my house? Seriously?

Sorry you are unhappy, but it's Notre Friggin' Dame. Do you not get it? Hey, maybe we'll schedule you guys in a couple years when you return to mediocrity.

Enough about Twitter

Jim Tressel is old school. He doesn't Twitter. Doesn't seem to know too much about it. I don't see him Tweeting soon. I think Tress will be just fine without joining the other coaches (Pete Carroll, RichRod, Bill Stewart, Tim Brewster and so on) who are Twittering. Wait. Shouldn't OSU Football SID Shelly Poe be doing this for him?

Coaching through Twitter

The news that a number of college coaches have turned to Twitter as a way to communicate with recruits and fans is interesting. But can we really believe that Pete Carroll and Rich Rodriguez are really sitting down or jumping on their Blackberry to offer their latest thoughts on lunch and March Madness?

I have been pretty skeptical until I read that Minnesota coach Tim Brewster is now on board because he didn't want to be outdone on the recruiting trail. Brewster's first Tweet was on Monday and since he has eight additional posts. He must be pissed because most of his Tweets are in all CAPS.

Look, I'm all for the coaches getting any advantage they can within the rules. But I'm still pretty skeptical when it comes to who is writing these updates. These guys don't even vote in the Coaches Poll like they claim, so should I really believe that RichRod is writing, "Good work done at practice today. Watching film with the Coaches. Go Blue!"

I believe in the power of Twitter. Heck, I update out account (which by the way you can find here). But one thing is for sure, I won't be following any of these accounts. I would encourage fans to follow some of the better college football Twitter accounts (besides ours).
